My first article at TipMonkies!

Yes, it’s up. It’s essentially a repost of my Foobar 2000 post from yesterday. It’s funny how writing for a quality, respected site like TipMonkies is different than writing for my own site. I don’t put a HUGE amount of time into the things I post here. I try to make them coherent, grammatically correct, spelled correctly, at least a little bit interesting, and that’s about it. I had to do a whole lot more for the TipMonkies post. Not sure what that means exactly or what my point really is.

Way back when, I used to write for The Adrenaline Vault. It’s kinda like that – except no free games.

D-pad origin?

I have no idea what made me think of this the other day……what is the origin of calling the little pad/controller thingy on a gamepad a “D-pad”? It’s not shaped like a D, it’s shaped like a plus. Why isn’t it called a “plus pad” or a “cross pad”? And when was the first time it was called this (and why)? And what controller had the first “D-pad”? I couldn’t immediately find the answer to this via Google. Things that make you say Hmmmmmmmm…….

Anyone have an answer?

UPDATE: Found it – D-pad is short for “direction pad” (I knew that). I found it on the very next google search after I posted this.

Rag Doll Kung Fu (PC Game)

I saw this while logging into Steam today…
Rag Doll Kung Fu has been picked up by Valve to be delivered via Steam. It’s a fighting game played with string puppets. The promo video looks really cool. Looks complicated to control, but the author assures us it isn’t (naturally). Take a look at the video of gameplay. It’s good to see there is still some innovative game developers out there.
