GP2X First Thoughts

My birthday was Sunday and I splurged and got myself a GP2X. What is it? It’s a portable game system (like a PSP or Nintendo DS) that is linux-based, fully supports homebrew games/applications, plays divx movies, MP3s, Oggs, etc. etc.

I’ve only had it for 3 days now, but I am SOOOOO impressed and happy with it. For the record, I’ve never owned a portable game system aside from those Mattel hand-held football/basketball/baseball games, so I can’t really compare it to any past systems.

Custom flash drive icon

Custom Flash Drive Icon Example

I found this trick online the other day (but didn’t note where I found it). You can easily make your USB drive show up in Windows with a custom icon. Simply find an .ico file you want to use (favicons from websites work nicely). I used my favicon for this site: MVP Favicon.

Simply put your .ico file in the root of your drive then create a text file called autorun.inf in the root of the drive and put this inside it:
[autorun]
icon=autorun.ico

(obviously putting your icon’s name in)

Now, whenever you plug it into a Windows machine, it will show your custom icon!

Over 100K on Blogshares

I don’t actually play Blogshares like some people do, but I check out how my blogs are doing from time to time and check how some other blogs I read are doing. I admit, I don’t totally understand the blog stock market. I checked on Candy Addict on Blogshares the other day and its valuation had past 100,000 B$! Cool. Also, outgoing links from Candy Addict are now worth 25K B$ (that’s the maximum) it’s the same as an outgoing link from BoingBoing! Again, not sure what it all means but I thought it was cool.

UPDATE: The stock value has come crashing down and it’s only worth just under 40K now, though the stock price (B$8,276.74) and outgoing link value (B$19,597.80) is still pretty high.
