Review: Firefly Lemon Sweet Tea Vodka

Firefly Sweet Tea Vodka

I have met my new favor liquor and its name is Firefly Sweet Tea Vodka. We first tried it at a local pub and it was quite tasty so we thought we’d try and find it in the local ABC Store. Good lord this stuff is good. It’s brewed in South Carolina with tea grown in South Carolina and cane sugar from Louisiana. The bottle suggested mixing it 50/50 with spring water or lemonade and since we had some Crystal Light lemonade in the fridge we tried that.

Oh. My. God. Delicious. Barely tastes like alcohol but my wife and I were feeling the effects in no time. They also make some other variations but honestly, I’ll stick with the Sweet Tea Vodka or Lemon Sweet Tea Vodka. It’s supposedly only available in the states near SC right now but it’s going nationwide. Look for it soon.

Space is big

While looking for a domain name for this blog way back in 2005 (geez – has it been that long???) one of the domain names I considered was spaceisbig.com but it was not available at the time. I just so happened to stumble on a quotes site, and was (re-)reading some Douglas Adams quotes and ran across the quote from him:

Space is big. You just won’t believe how vastly, hugely, mind- bogglingly big it is. I mean, you may think it’s a long way down the road to the chemist’s, but that’s just peanuts to space.

so I checked and what do you know, spaceisbig.com was available! So I bought it today! I pout the quote up on the site and was thinking about putting the NASA astronomy picture of the day widget but couldn’t find a good widget to do it. Maybe later. or not.

Audiobook Review: The “Share” Series by Nathan Lowell

It’s not often I find a book that totally engrosses me, makes me smile, makes me tear up… and is free. I found all this and more with the series of four audiobooks from Nathan Lowell. All four books are available for free download from Podiobooks. The four books are Quarter Share, Half Share, Full Share, and Double Share.

I just finished listening to the whole series and they are some of the best audiobooks/stories I have ever heard. I’ll try not to give away too much, but they are about an average young man who loses his mother and has to enlist in “the fleet”. Despite the story occurring on ships in space, it’s really not about space – it’s much more about the characters and their interactions on-board ship. It’s so NOT about space, even my wife is listening to them and enjoying them – and she hates sci-fi.

I’m not sure why the series sucked me in so easily and so completely, but it did. Nathan Lowell’s reading of the stories could not be any better. I encourage you to give the first one, Quarter Share, a go and see if you enjoy it as much as I did. If not, you’ve lost nothing since it’s free to download and try.

Now I just have to figure out how much money to donate to the author/podiobooks.com.
