Since I have been using a plugin to Miranda to check my POP3 account, during the time period where I couldn’t use Miranda I had to look for a small footprint POP3 checker. My requirements were:
- low memory footprint, the smaller the better
- message preview - I want to see who it’s from and the subject before launching my mail client
- mimize to tray
- freeware
I found a TON of POP3 checkers and here were my results for the ones I tried:
- eprompter - 5.8MB - too much memory
- emailchk - 5 MB - too much memory
- magic mail monitor - 5.5 MB - too much memory
- mailchecker - 3MB - no preview
- natty - 1.6 MB - no preview
- mailpeek - 500kb - no system tray
- PopPeeper - 1.7 MB - WINNER
So, I ended up using PopPeeper. It met all my needs and only used ~1.7MB of memory when running. Of course, now that Miranda works again, I don’t need it any more. Oh well. Maybe this info will help someone else in the future.
